Obituary

My friend and batchmate Dipankar Sarkar 1967 Civil passed away at around 5:30 PM on Sunday last (08 September 2024) at his flat on Broad Street, Kolkata. Dipu was a bright student, entered B E College in 1962 after his higher secondary from Ballygunge Government School. Short height Dipu was very smart and used to give an enjoyable company to all in college adda and at the same time he used to be serious in his studies. I was in the same hostel with him from first year till he moved to Wolfenden in 4th year. When we passed out it was very difficult to get a job. Dipu was selected for an appointment in a leading consulting organization M N Dastur & Co. After working there for a few years he went abroad. Worked there for some years before returning to run to start his own organisation. He was not well for quite a longtime and was confined to bed for nearly six months. With health deteriorating fast his family members decided to admit him to hospital on the Sunday last but could not be done. Dipu was the first in our batch to get married.

He left behind his wife, son who is settled in USA and two daughters who are settled in Australia and New Zealand. I pray for the soul of Dipu to rest in peace. My condolences are with his wife, son, daughters and near and dear ones.
