Indian Women Cricket team wins its first World Cup.
The inaugural Women’s U19 T20 World Cup was held recently in South Africa, a tournament of 16 countries. After preliminary round, 12 teams qualified for the Super Six (2 groups) round. Australia, India, England and New Zealand reached the semifinal stage. In the semifinals, England beat Australia by 3 runs and India beat New Zealand by 8 wickets.
In the final held on 29th January, India could easily beat England by 7 wickets with 36 balls remaining. Titas Sadhu was adjudged Woman of The Final for her outstanding spell of 4-0-6-2.
The Indian team, led by Shefali Verma, performed admirably throughout the tournament, the only blemishwas a loss to Australia in a Super Six group match. It was indeed a great team effort and each and every member of the team contributed in her own way.
It was the first World Cup win for our women cricket team, and we are looking forward to a similar achievement of our senior team led by Smriti Mandhana.
